If there is one way to please Hanuman, it would be to chant the name of his beloved Ram. Hence let us begin this blog with this lovely song. This song- “Raghupathi Raghava Raja Ram”, also called Ram Dhun, is a popular bhajan whose lyrics were taken from Sri Nama Ramayanam written by Sri Lakshmanacharya.

Hanuman, Anjaneya or Sankat Mochan is perhaps one of the most revered and adored deities in the Hindu scriptures. The Lord is an embodiment of Shiva and exemplifies strength, devotion, compassion and perseverance. The tales of Hanuman have taught us numerous lessons; his selfless service for Rama teaches us the meaning of true friendship. His unwavering faith in the almighty reiterates the true definition of faith and worship. Always eager to help those in need, he always stood for the truth and dharma. 

Anjana, a beautiful Apsara in celestial palace court of Lord Brahma was cursed by a sage that, the moment she fell in love her face would transform to that of a monkey. Lord Brahma thought of helping her and she took birth on Earth. Later, Anjana fell in love with Kesari, the monkey king and they both married each other. Being an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, she continued with her tapasya to please the God. Lord Shiva was impressed and she wished him to be her son so that she would be freed from the curse of the sage. 

Few days later, King Dasarath was performing a yagna after which the sage gave him a kheer (payasam) to feed all his wives. A portion of this kheer from Kaushlya, his eldest wife, was snatched by a kite which flew all the way where Anjana was meditating. Lord Vayu (aka Pawan – Wind), on the signal of Lord Shiva, left the kheer in Anjana’s hand. Taking it as Lord Shiva’s prasad, Anjana ate it and gave birth to His incarnation, known as “Pawan Putra Hanuman”, the son of the Lord of the Wind. 

The word Hanuman is derived from two Sanksrit words ‘Hanu’ and ‘Man’. While the word ‘Hanu’ means jaw, ‘Man’ means disfigured. According to legend, Hanuman tried to swallow the sun, as a child, thinking it to be a huge fruit. To dissuade him from his pursuit, Lord Indra had to use his vajra on Anjaneya, who was thrown onto earth thus disfiguring his jaw forever. Later, all the gods realised who Hanuman was and gifted him individually. Lord Sun agreed to teach him the Vedas.


Lord Hanuman had earned the reputation of being notorious during his childhood. He used to pester meditating hermits, who had taken refuge in the kingdom of his father, King Kesari. During one such incident, an annoyed sage had hexed Hanuman. Due to the spell Hanuman was unable to remember the powers vested in him by the deities, unless someone reminded him of it. When Sita was kidnapped by Ravana, Jambavan, the great bear king, had to remind Hanuman of his powers, so that he could cross the ocean, reach Lanka and pursue the search for Sita. Once Hanuman realised his true potential, he set out to cross the ocean single-handed, overcame all the obstacles and later played a key role in the war with Ravana. At many crucial points during the war Hanuman helped Rama and His army to win over Ravana.


Hanuman was a minister in the army of king Sugriva, who was another ruler of the monkey clan. The story of how Hanuman came to assist Sugriva began when Hanuman was learning scriptures from Lord Surya. With his never ending inquisitiveness and dedication, it took him only sixty hours to become proficient in all the scriptures. Lord Surya was highly impressed with his disciple’s feat and waived off the guru dakshina. Hanuman though was insistent on paying the guru dakshina and when the Sun asked him to become a companion of Sugriva, he readily agreed.

During Ram’s quest to free Sita from the clutches of Ravana, it was Hanuman who flew across the sea to reach the demons king’s palace and discovered the whereabouts of Sita. When Ravan became aware of Hanuman’s presence in his palace, he ordered his soldiers to capture and kill the petty monkey. In order to crush Ravan’s ego, Hanuman set about destroying Lanka with his tail that was set ablaze by Ravan’s soldiers. In this commotion he found Lord Shani imprisoned in the palace’s basement, who was cursed by Brahma to remain in captivity till an incarnation of Shiva frees him. Hanuman released him from the confinement. Delighted, Lord Shani helped Hanuman in his pursuit to destroy Lanka and even granted him a boon that Hanuman’s devotees would not be troubled by Shani. 

The demon king Ravan had sent his brother Ahiravan to capture Ram and Lakshman. Acting on his brother’s advice, Ahiravan held Ram and Lakshman in captivity, in the Nether world. Hanuman was determined to save his Lord but in order to kill Ahiravan one needed to extinguish five lamps in five different directions. Thus Hanuman adopted the pancha mukha form to achieve this and defeated Ahiravan. The four other faces are believed to be of Garuda, Narsimha, Varaha and Hayagriva, which face the north, south, east, west and the sky.


Lord Hanuman was greatly devoted to Lord Rama. A particular incident was when Sita put sindhoor on her forehead, Hanuman asked her why. To this, she replied that since she is the wife and companion of Lord Rama, the sindhoor was a sign of her unconditional love and respect. Hanuman then covered his entire body with sindhoor to prove his love for Lord Rama. Lord Rama was really impressed by this and granted a boon that those who worshiped Lord Hanuman with sindhoor would see all their difficulties go away. There are many temples devoted to depicting Hanuman in Sindhoor Lal. The Bhadra Maruti temple, near Aurangabad for example:


Once during Sita’s exile in later periods, Hanuman went to meet her in priest Valmiki’s cottage. Sita was overwhelmed with happiness to see him and cooked many delicacies for Hanuman. Sita continued to serve food to Hanuman and was at the verge of exhausting all the food supplies but was unable to satiate his hunger. In despair, she prayed to Lord Ram who advised her to add a Tulsi leaf in the food being served to Hanuman. Since Tulsi is offered to the Lord Ram and Hanuman was a die-hard follower of Ram, Sita was finally able to gratify the hungry Hanuman.


NAMAKKAL ANJANEYAR DECORATED WITH TULSI

When Ram decided to leave for the heavenly abode, many including his wife Sita and Lakshman followed him. But his most ardent devotee vowed that he would stay on this earth for as long as the name of Rama is chanted by its inhabitants. Hanuman is one among the Chiranjivis or immortals, according to the Hindu traditions, who resides in this world to this day, protecting us from the evils.

When finally peace prevailed in the kingdom and Rama ascended the throne, Hanuman travelled to the Himalayas where he continued to worship the deity. A master of all scriptures, Hanuman carved into the rocks of Himalayas the deeds of Lord Rama. When Valmiki encountered Hanuman, he realised that Hanuman’s version of Ramayana was far more superior to his own. Realising Valmiki’s predicament Hanuman renounced his version of the Ramayana leaving Valmiki in awe. The astonished Valmiki said it would be his pleasure to be born again to sing praises of the Monkey God and accordingly he was born as Saint Tulsidas.


During the 16th CE, Tulsidas retold the Ramayana in the vernacular Awadhi language of Uttar Pradesh (rather than the academic Sanskrit) and also composed several hymns to the gods. One such hymn, the Hanuman Chalisa, continues to be recited today by millions. This canticle of 40 verses celebrates all of the qualities that Hanuman came to signify over the centuries: strength, devotion, celibacy, and righteousness. Hanuman became a god.

Meaning:
With the dust of Guru’s Lotus feet, I cleanse the mirror of my mind and recite the holy glory of Lord Sri Ram, the greatest of Raghu dynasty, the giver of the four achievements of life, (four purusharthas - Dharma, Artha, Kaama and Moksha)

Knowing that I am ignorant, I plead you, O Hanuman, The son of Pavan - the lord of wind, kindly give me strength, wisdom and knowledge, removing my griefs and flaws.

Meaning:
Victory of you, O Hanuman, ocean of knowledge and wisdom, victory to the Lord of monkeys who is greatly known in all the three worlds ( Heaven , Earth and Hell ).


(2) रामदूत अतुलित बल धामा।
अंजनि-पुत्र पवनसुत नामा।।
Ram doot atulit bal dhama
Anjaani-putra Pavan sut nama
ராமதூத அதுலித பலதாமா |
அம்ஜனி புத்ர பவனஸுத னாமா || 2 ||

Meaning:
The messenger of Sri Rama , one who holds immense strength, son of Anjani and the Pavan - the wind.


(3) महाबीर बिक्रम बजरंगी।
कुमति निवार सुमति के संगी।।

Kumati nivar sumati Ke sangi
மஹாவீர விக்ரம பஜரங்கீ |
குமதி னிவார ஸுமதி கே ஸங்கீ ||3 ||

Meaning:
Oh brave Hanuman, with a body like lightening, you dispel evil and you are a companion of goodness.


(4) कंचन बरन बिराज सुबेसा।
कानन कुंडल कुंचित केसा।।
Kanchan varan viraj subesa
Kanan Kundal Kunchit Kesha
கம்சன வரண விராஜ ஸுவேஶா |
கானன கும்டல கும்சித கேஶா || 4 ||

Meaning:
Golden coloured physique, prettily dressed, wearing ear-rings and with long curly hair.


(5) हाथ बज्र औ ध्वजा बिराजै।
कांधे मूंज जनेऊ साजै।
Haath Vajra Aur Dhuvaje Viraje
Kaandhe moonj janehu sajai
ஹாதவஜ்ர ஔ த்வஜா விராஜை |
காம்தே மூம்ஜ ஜனேவூ ஸாஜை || 5||

Meaning:
Holding in one hand a lightning bolt ( weapon of lord Indra ) and in the other a banner of victory with sacred thread made of grass across his shoulder.


(6) संकर सुवन केसरीनंदन।
तेज प्रताप महा जग बन्दन।।
Sankar suvan kesri Nandan
Tej prataap maha jag vandan
ஶம்கர ஸுவன கேஸரீ னன்தன |
தேஜ ப்ரதாப மஹாஜக வன்தன || 6 ||

Meaning:
Oh Hanuman ! The reincarnation of lord Shiva and son of Kesari. The entire world is pacified by your glory.


(7) विद्यावान गुनी अति चातुर।
राम काज करिबे को आतुर।।
Vidyavaan guni ati chatur
Ram kaj karibe ko aatur
வித்யாவான குணீ அதி சாதுர |
ராம காஜ கரிவே கோ ஆதுர || 7 ||

Meaning:
You are virtuous, very wise and highly keen to do the work of Shri Ram.


(8) प्रभु चरित्र सुनिबे को रसिया।
राम लखन सीता मन बसिया।।
Prabu charitra sunibe-ko rasiya
Ram Lakhan Sita man Basiya
ப்ரபு சரித்ர ஸுனிவே கோ ரஸியா |
ராமலகன ஸீதா மன பஸியா || 8||

Meaning:
You intensely listen to the life stories of Sri Ram and allow Shri Ram, Sita and Shri Lakshman to dwell in your heart.


(9) सूक्ष्म रूप धरि सियहिं दिखावा।
बिकट रूप धरि लंक जरावा।।
Sukshma roop dhari Siyahi dikhava
Vikat roop dhari lank jarava
ஸூக்ஷ்ம ரூபதரி ஸியஹி திகாவா |
விகட ரூபதரி லம்க ஜராவா || 9 ||

Meaning:
You put on a humble (miniature) form in front of Sita when you met Her and you assumed a demonic form while setting Lanka on fire.


(10) भीम रूप धरि असुर संहारे।
रामचंद्र के काज संवारे।।
Bhima roop dhari asur sanghare
Ramachandra ke kaj sanvare
பீம ரூபதரி அஸுர ஸம்ஹாரே |
ராமசம்த்ர கே காஜ ஸம்வாரே || 10 ||

Meaning:
You assumed a powerful form to terrorise and destry demons in Lanka and performed tasks of Shri Ram.


(11) लाय सजीवन लखन जियाये।
श्रीरघुबीर हरषि उर लाये।।
Laye Sanjivan Lakhan Jiyaye
Shri Raghuvir Harashi ur laye
லாய ஸம்ஜீவன லகன ஜியாயே |
ஶ்ரீ ரகுவீர ஹரஷி உரலாயே || 11 ||

Meaning:
You saved Lakshman by bringing the Sanjivni herbs. Shri Ram took you in his deep embrace, his heart full of joy.

  


(12) रघुपति कीन्ही बहुत बड़ाई।
तुम मम प्रिय भरतहि सम भाई।।
Raghupati Kinhi bahut badai
Tum mam priye Bharat-hi-sam bhai
ரகுபதி கீன்ஹீ பஹுத படாயீ |
தும மம ப்ரிய பரதஹி ஸம பாயீ || 12 ||

Meaning:
Shri Ram showered praises on you saying , “you are as dear to me as my own brother Bharat".


(13) सहस बदन तुम्हरो जस गावैं।
अस कहि श्रीपति कंठ लगावैं।।
Sahas badan tumharo yash gaave
Asa-kahi Shripati kanth lagaave
ஸஹஸ வதன தும்ஹரோ யஶகாவை |
அஸ கஹி ஶ்ரீபதி கண்ட லகாவை || 13 ||

Meaning:
Shri Ram embraced you and said, “Let the thousand-tongued Shesh naag (Adi Sesha) sing your glories".


(14) सनकादिक ब्रह्मादि मुनीसा।
नारद सारद सहित अहीसा।।
Sankadhik Brahmaadi Muneesa
Narad-Sarad sahit Aheesa
ஸனகாதிக ப்ரஹ்மாதி முனீஶா |
னாரத ஶாரத ஸஹித அஹீஶா || 14 ||

Meaning:
Sanaka Rishi and other sages, Lord Brahma, Naradha and Goddess Saraswati along with Shesh naag sang in praise of you.


(15) जम कुबेर दिगपाल जहां ते।
कबि कोबिद कहि सके कहां ते।।
Yam Kuber Digpaal Jahan te
Kavi kovid kahi sake kahan te
யம குபேர திகபால ஜஹாம் தே |
கவி கோவித கஹி ஸகே கஹாம் தே || 15 ||

Meaning:
Gods like Yama, Kuber, and Dig paalagaas (directional deities) fail to narrate your greatness exactly . How can I, a simple poet (Tulasidas ) do justice to the song of your greatness?


(16) तुम उपकार सुग्रीवहिं कीन्हा।
राम मिलाय राज पद दीन्हा।।
Tum upkar Sugreevahin keenha
Rama milaye rajpad deenha
தும உபகார ஸுக்ரீவஹி கீன்ஹா |
ராம மிலாய ராஜபத தீன்ஹா || 16 ||

Meaning:
You rendered a great service for Sugriva. It was you who united him with Shree Ram and installed him on the Royal Throne.


(17) तुम्हरो मंत्र बिभीषन माना।
लंकेस्वर भए सब जग जाना।।
Tumharo mantra Vibheeshan maana
Lankeshwar Bhaye Sub jag jana
தும்ஹரோ மன்த்ர விபீஷண மானா |
லம்கேஶ்வர பயே ஸப ஜக ஜானா || 17 ||

Meaning:
As per your advice Vibhishan became King of Lanka, which is known throughout the universe.


(18) जुग सहस्र जोजन पर भानू।
लील्यो ताहि मधुर फल जानू।।
Yug sahastra jojan par Bhanu
Leelyo tahi madhur phal janu
யுக ஸஹஸ்ர யோஜன பர பானூ |
லீல்யோ தாஹி மதுர பல ஜானூ || 18 ||

Meaning:
In your childhood, you gulped the Sun (considering it to be a bright fruit), which is at a distance of thousands of miles.


(19) प्रभु मुद्रिका मेलि मुख माहीं।
जलधि लांघि गये अचरज नाहीं।।
Prabhu mudrika meli mukh mahee
Jaladhi langhi gaye achraj nahee
ப்ரபு முத்ரிகா மேலி முக மாஹீ |
ஜலதி லாம்கி கயே அசரஜ னாஹீ || 19 ||

Meaning:
Carrying Lord Rama's ring in your mouth, you crossed the ocean with might. There is no wonder in that.


(20) दुर्गम काज जगत के जेते।
सुगम अनुग्रह तुम्हरे तेते।।
Durgaama kaj jagath ke jete
Sugam anugraha tumhre tete
துர்கம காஜ ஜகத கே ஜேதே |
ஸுகம அனுக்ரஹ தும்ஹரே தேதே || 20 ||

Meaning:
All the difficulties in the world can be dealt with easily by us with your kind grace.


(21) राम दुआरे तुम रखवारे।
होत न आज्ञा बिनु पैसारे।।
Ram dwaare tum rakhvare
Hoatha na agya binu paisare
ராம துஆரே தும ரகவாரே |
ஹோத ன ஆஜ்ஞா பினு பைஸாரே || 21 ||

Meaning:
You are the guardian of Rama's divine abode. No one may enter this without your permission.


(22) सब सुख लहै तुम्हारी सरना।
तुम रक्षक काहू को डर ना।।
Sub sukh lahae tumhari sar na
Tuma rakshak kahu ko dar naa
ஸப ஸுக லஹை தும்ஹாரீ ஶரணா |
தும ரக்ஷக காஹூ கோ டரனா || 22 ||

Meaning:
By your grace one can enjoy all bliss. You are the saviour, why should one be afraid ?


(23) आपन तेज सम्हारो आपै।
तीनों लोक हांक तें कांपै।।
Aapana tej samharo aapai
Teenhon lok hank te kanpai
ஆபன தேஜ தும்ஹாரோ ஆபை |
தீனோம் லோக ஹாம்க தே காம்பை || 23 ||

Meaning:
When you roar all the three worlds tremble and only you can control your might.


(24) भूत पिसाच निकट नहिं आवै।
महाबीर जब नाम सुनावै।।
Bhootha pisaach Nikat nahin aavai
Mahavira jab naam sunavae
பூத பிஶாச னிகட னஹி ஆவை |
மஹவீர ஜப னாம ஸுனாவை || 24 ||

Meaning:
Just a mention of maha veer’s (Hanuman’s) holy name keeps all the ghosts, demons and evils spirits away from your devotees.


(25) नासै रोग हरै सब पीरा।
जपत निरंतर हनुमत बीरा।।
Nase rog harae sab peera
Japatha nirantar Hanumant beera
னாஸை ரோக ஹரை ஸப பீரா |
ஜபத னிரம்தர ஹனுமத வீரா || 25 ||

Meaning:
On reciting Hanuman's name frequently, all the diseases perish, all pain vanish.


(26) संकट तें हनुमान छुड़ावै।
मन क्रम बचन ध्यान जो लावै।।
Sankata se Hanuman chudavae
Mana Karama Vachan dyan jo lavai
ஸம்கட ஸேம் ஹனுமான சுடாவை |
மன க்ரம வசன த்யான ஜோ லாவை || 26 ||

Meaning:
Those who remember Hanuman in thought and deed are secured against all odds in life.


(27) सब पर राम तपस्वी राजा।
तिन के काज सकल तुम साजा।
Sab par Ram tapasvee raja
Tina ke kaj sakal Tum saja
ஸப பர ராம தபஸ்வீ ராஜா |
தினகே காஜ ஸகல தும ஸாஜா || 27 ||

Meaning:
You are the care-taker of even the great Lord Sri Rama, who has been hailed as the monarch of all those in penances.

(28) और मनोरथ जो कोई लावै।
सोइ अमित जीवन फल पावै।।
Aur manorath jo koi lavai
Dasu amit jeevan phal pavai
ஔர மனோரத ஜோ கோயி லாவை |
தாஸு அமித ஜீவன பல பாவை || 28 ||

Meaning:
Whoever comes to you for fulfilment of desires with complete faith and sincerity, will certainly attain the fruit of life.


(29) चारों जुग परताप तुम्हारा।
है परसिद्ध जगत उजियारा।।
Charon Yug partap tumhara
Hai persidh jagat ujiyara
சாரோ யுக பரிதாப தும்ஹாரா |
ஹை பரஸித்த ஜகத உஜியாரா || 29 ||

Meaning:
You magnificent glory is acclaimed through the four eons (yugas) and your fame is radiantly noted all over.


(30) साधु-संत के तुम रखवारे।
असुर निकंदन राम दुलारे।।
Sadhu Sant ke tum Rakhware
Asur nikandan Ram dulhare
ஸாது ஸன்த கே தும ரகவாரே |
அஸுர னிகன்தன ராம துலாரே || 30 ||

Meaning:
You are the guardian of saints and sages; you are the heavenly darling of lord Shri Ram.


(31) अष्ट सिद्धि नौ निधि के दाता।
अस बर दीन जानकी माता।।
Ashta-sidhi nav nidhi ke dhata
As-vara deen Janki mata
அஷ்ட ஸித்தி னவ னிதி கே தாதா |
அஸ வர தீன்ஹ ஜானகீ மாதா || 31 ||

Meaning:
You (Hanumanji) have been given a boon by mother Janaki and you can yourself grant  any yogic power of eight Sidhis (ashtamaa siddhis) and nine Nidhis (fame, power, comfort, prestige, etc) to anyone.


(32) राम रसायन तुम्हरे पासा।
सदा रहो रघुपति के दासा।।
Ram rasayan tumhare pasa
Sada raho Raghupati ke dasa
ராம ரஸாயன தும்ஹாரே பாஸா |
ஸாத ரஹோ ரகுபதி கே தாஸா || 32 ||

Meaning:
You have unstinted pure devotion to Ram, always remaining  as His greatest disciple.


(33) तुम्हरे भजन राम को पावै।
जनम-जनम के दुख बिसरावै।।
Tumhare bhajan Ram ko pavai
Janama-janama ke dukh bisraavai
தும்ஹரே பஜன ராமகோ பாவை |
ஜன்ம ஜன்ம கே துக பிஸராவை || 33 ||

Meaning:
Through devotion to you, one reaches lord Rama and becomes free from suffering of many lives.


(34) अन्तकाल रघुबर पुर जाई।
जहां जन्म हरि-भक्त कहाई।।
Antha-kaal Raghuvir pur jayee
Jahana janam Hari-Bakht Kahayee
அம்த கால ரகுவர புரஜாயீ |
ஜஹாம் ஜன்ம ஹரிபக்த கஹாயீ || 34 ||

Meaning:
With your grace, one goes to the eternal abode of Sri Ram after death and remains  devoted to Rama in all lives.


(35) और देवता चित्त न धरई।
हनुमत सेइ सर्ब सुख करई।।
Aur Devta Chit na dharehi
Hanumanth se hi sarve sukh karehi
ஔர தேவதா சித்த ன தரயீ |
ஹனுமத ஸேயி ஸர்வ ஸுக கரயீ || 35 ||

Meaning:
We need not think of any other God. Hanuman alone will give us all happiness and bliss.


(36) संकट कटै मिटै सब पीरा।
जो सुमिरै हनुमत बलबीरा।।
Sankat kate-mite sab peera
Jo sumirai Hanumat Balbeera
ஸம்கட கடை மிடை ஸப பீரா |
ஜோ ஸுமிரை ஹனுமத பல வீரா || 36 ||

Meaning:
All troubles vanish and all problems move away on remembering lord Hanuman.


(37) जै जै जै हनुमान गोसाईं।
कृपा करहु गुरुदेव की नाईं।।
Jai Jai Jai Hanuman Gosahin
Kripa Karahu Gurudev ki nyahin
ஜை ஜை ஜை ஹனுமான கோஸாயீ |
க்றுபா கரோ குருதேவ கீ னாயீ || 37 ||

Meaning:
Hail Hanuman ji ! I request you to bless me in the capacity of my supreme teacher.


(38) जो सत बार पाठ कर कोई।
छूटहि बंदि महा सुख होई।।
Jo sat bar path kare kohi
Chutehi bandhi maha sukh hohi
ஜோ ஶத வார பாட கர கோயீ |
சூடஹி பன்தி மஹா ஸுக ஹோயீ || 38 ||

Meaning:
One who recites Hanuman Chalisa one hundred times, becomes free from the bondage of life and death and enjoys the greatest happiness and bliss.


(39) जो यह पढ़ै हनुमान चालीसा।
होय सिद्धि साखी गौरीसा।।
Jo yah padhe Hanuman Chalisa
Hoye siddhi sakhi Gaureesa
ஜோ யஹ படை ஹனுமான சாலீஸா |
ஹோய ஸித்தி ஸாகீ கௌரீஶா || 39 ||

Meaning:
As Lord Gowri Shankar (Shiva) witnesses, all those who recite Hanuman Chalisa regularly are sure to be benefited.


(40) तुलसीदास सदा हरि चेरा।
कीजै नाथ हृदय मंह डेरा।।
Tulsidas sada hari chera
Keejai Nath Hridaye mein dera
துலஸீதாஸ ஸதா ஹரி சேரா |
கீஜை னாத ஹ்றுதய மஹ டேரா || 40 ||

Meaning:
Tulsidas always the servant of Lord Hari prays: “Oh Lord, You kindly enshrine in my heart.!

पवनतनय संकट हरन मंगल मूरति रूप।
राम लखन सीता सहित हृदय बसहु सुर भूप॥

பவன தனய ஸங்கட ஹரண – மங்கள மூரதி ரூப் |
ராம லகன ஸீதா ஸஹித – ஹ்றுதய பஸஹு ஸுரபூப் ||

Meaning:
O Son of Vāyu, remover of adversities, one with an auspicious form, and the chief among all Devas, may you reside in our hearts along with Rama, Lakshman and Sita. 


Lord Hanuman symbolically stands for pure devotion, complete surrender without any trace of ego. As a monkey god, he represents the lower self of man which thinks and behaves that he is just that body with limitations. But when he is reminded of who he is and what his strengths are, he gets connected to the higher and then serves and works for the higher after which he merges with that higher. All of us have that inner core strength and potential, which when revealed to us, can lead us to success both in the material as well as the spiritual world.

Chanting Hanuman Chalisa is all about invoking the dormant Hanuman within us. We also can realise our strengths and achieve great things in life, if we awake the Hanuman within.
